What's the cheapest knife that stopped your search for the ideal EDC?

Before I was bitten by the knife bug, I carried a Vic Classic for years; either on my keychain or in my coin pocket. It was small, convenient and did everything I needed a pocket knife to do in a pinch. I still carry a small SAK on my keychain every day but now it's the Vic Rambler. I think I paid about $25 for it. It is used frequently for the tools (rarely for the blade) and if I lost it I would replace it ASAP.

When I first got into knives as a hobby, I was buying modern locking one-handers like mad. During my one-hander phase, I picked up a Vic Tinker for $25 and carried it faithfully for a couple years as a back-up blade (in addition to my keychain SAK.) Then I found the alox Pioneer for $30 which replaced the Tinker and it is my go-to SAK to this day.

But...

My CRKs are the last one-handers I've bought and I have not felt the itch for anything else since (now, traditional knives are a completely different story.) It is important to note that before this, I was buying 4-5 one-handers a month.

I still love knives of all shapes and flavours, but I just don't buy one-handers anymore. I've found mine and it happens to be the Sebenza. YMMV.

Well my search is halted. Spyderco Dragonfly ZDP-189 has me quite satisfied. Maybe with money I get for Christmas I'll get a CRK, Strider or Hinderer, but as of now I have at least one knife for everything I might need. The little dragonfly zips open mail and packages like nobody's business.

For me it is a Buck 279T a massive heavy folder. Beautiful and incredibly strong. I have carried it about 11 years now and after opening it 10's of thousands of times it opens as smoothly as butter and no play due to use. I have cut cardboard and steel strapping, plastics and wood. If you asked what folder I would depend on like a fixed blade this would be it. I don't know how a person with the strength of their hand and wrist could break it in normal use. For finer work I carry a Magnum by Boker in Damascus steel rarely need to sharpen it just touch it up with a steel.

The most expensive EDC I ever purchased was a BM 940. I sold it because it just didn't do it for me.

I've owned other folders in that price bracket and still have one of them; however, on any given day, I usually have a Vic SAK in my left pocket and a modestly priced locking folder in my right pocket. Typically, it's my Rat 1. I really love that knife. And if it's not the Rat 1, it's my Cold Steel Voyager. I really love that knife too. I'm just not into the more expensive folders.

Almost embarrased how much I like the Kershaw Shuffle for $ 15.00. It has been a real fun knife for EDC and most who see it want to get one. It has been in my pocket for two weeks in a row & the Izula is not replaced just getting some down time.

Folder: Opinel #7

Fixed: Mora 511

I have some nice slip-joints that I really like and a few Spyderco's that I enjoy but none perform as well as these to when it comes to cutting.

Most I've spent on a folder was for my orange scaled Strider SNG, $289.00 OTD from the Little Creek Amphib Base Naval Exchange. My favorite EDC folder, and the lowest priced one at that is the ESEE/BRK Zancudo folder in orange...there's something about that little mosquito that stays with me every where I go.

I could have stopped with either a PM 2 or Spyderco Southard. Rotate these as edcs. Please note that I said "could have". But I felt I needed a Seb25 and a few others. Probably did not in retrospect.

I have found a few that I really liked and kept them all. But about all that I have ever carried more than two days in a row was a ZT0200, Kershaw Spec Bump, and a Stanley folding utility knife. I usually have the Stanley in my pocket with anything else to handle the crappy jobs. I love the replaceable blades and the body never seems to rust.

Just read this. FWIW, when I ride, I always clip my knife onto a coiled tether, especially when I used to dirt bike. Falling was half of the fun!

Benchmade Contego, just over $100, large blade, slices well and M4 ROCKs.

The Contego bumped the Rift out of my pocket.

I still carry a Microtech, ZT or strider at times, but I use the Contego LOTS more. I've lost knifes Dirt biking, and the Contego's cost doesn't hurt as bad as a high dollar knife.

The BM minigrip has more or less stolen all the pocket time. Now I just look for different variations of the mini grip. Its cheap enough to where im not afraid of banging it up or losing it, but its very high quality.

I'm currently using the CRKT M21-14 and Cold Steel Recon 1 as my every day carry knives. I'm currently deployed so I carry at least two knives at all times.

ZT 0700, Spyderco Manix 2, and a Marzitelli Custom Knife with s35vn, Lignum Vitae wooden handles, costing $335.00. For some reason, I just love having a tanto knife on me rather if is a japanese style or American. I can't keep buying since I need to save for collage to become a jewellery maker. When I start making more than enough money to live on my own, then I will restart the hobby.

Best first custom fixed blade I ever bought. My friends asked why I dropped almost 600 dollars on knives in that year. I tolded her because I don't have to pay to use a cell phone since I don't use one, nor pay for car insurance or gas since I don't have a car yet.

I bought a spyderco resilience a while back. Paid about 40 bucks for it. Its been my EDC ever since. Everything I need, nothing I don't. I love it.
