When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

This was probably mentioned earlier but it just occurred to me. Of the list of countries on his FAQ page in relation to spreadsheet of COO that he released, which of his knives were made in Finland? 🤣

It reminds of the old SNL character Mr. Subliminal that Kevin Nealon used to play...

We "source and/or manufacture many of our parts and products – in countries like Japan, Hong Kong, Finland, China, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Europe, and Canada "

I was wondering this as well. Basically, the guy just spews lies. There is zero reason to believe anything he says. Here's another thing of note:

He never, even once going back to the beginning, specifically says on his website that his knives are made in the USA. He suggests it, he dances around it, but he never says it. This suggests to me that he has been manufacturing his knives in China from day one, and conning his customers and dealers all this time.

Oh damn. I went to look this up and found it on knifecenter. Check out the video on the listing.

And for those of you who prefer to read, here’s how dripping with MADE IN THE USA the promotion has been for Hoback’s stuff.

“Next up we’ve got a new smaller flipper knife from Jake Hoback, this is the Enoch Flipper, made in the USA, comes in at 255. The fact that it’s made in the USA for what you’re getting here it’s fairly competitively priced, I gotta say. Blade itself a bit over 3 inches, you’ve got m390-er sorry, cpm20cv blade steel, the American version after all, blah blah blah blah.”

It’s not exactly SUBTLE.

Man, I have to say, Europe is my favorite country you listed, after Italy and Finland.

Europe is a continent 😉
I know, right? 🤣 The stupidity involved in such a statement was not lost on me.

Just to clarify for future reference in case he changes it yet again, that is a direct quote form what HE has listed on his FAQ page, not me.

I own a Hoback, that's was listed as USA/ china before he deleted the list. I wonder what steel is really in it? I mean the dude lied about everything why would he be honest about the steel? My knife is supposed to be s35vn it's probably some cheap Chinese crap!

We should designate a new area for knife makers and companies to be banished to that prove less than upfront with their vendors and customers...

...let's call it "Hobackistan", a lawless region within "Prevarication Nation".

The amount of snake oil salesmen in his "about" section as of this morning, is telling.
It would have been more succinct for him just to say "our knives and products are made by any number of people and manufacturers, somewhere in the world, using various methods and materials...all of which is then funneled through our shop to vendors and on to your door".

Can't be more transparent than that.

Of course, that's fine, to tell new and future purchasers that their knives may be sourced from and built in any of a number of places.

Does nothing at all to salve the wounds of those already burnt by purchasing something which was not what they believed it to be.

Just the shots of machining, sparks flying, "NO GLOVES"... on the website, makes me laugh.
"Yep...! Things are definitely getting done in this workshop! See those grind lines? See that quality, Jake Hoback ground those lines in just for you."

Looks like a big gimmick. Looks like an upscale BudK.
