When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

This thread proves that some people are so desperate to win that they can't see or don't care that the hill they've chosen to die upon is a hill of manure.
Well there’s your problem right there.. you think this is about “winning” when it’s really about applying logic to the situation rather than busting out torches and pitchforks and saying “who’s with me?”

Maybe we could get back to making this about “Hoback” and not “members that disagree with you”. What do you say? Sound like a plan?

"not 'members that disagree with you'" indeed!

I really don't see the point in hiding the origin of a knife when it's perfect! Over the years, more than 7 Hoback knives have passed through me and each of them has been without remarks. But the best one just overall is my first Kwaiback MK4, ordered and waited for almost a year at the beginning of its production. I do not know what has happened over the years, but the situation right now is very ugly.

That is a fantastic looking knife and I had been seriously considered buying one some time back. Then that earlier thread where he was a complete a-hole showed up and I decided I didn't want to give that man my money. As it turns out, the idiot helped me dodge a bullet since he is charging a USA made, premium price for a knife that not only will he not tell you if it is USA made, but he has confirmed that it is possibly made entirely overseas. You can't make this behavior up. Hard to believe anyone could find themselves defending these actions here on the world's largest knife forum....

Even if Jake Hoback wasn’t omitting Country of Origin maliciously, he did the big “no no” by not speaking up outwardly as soon as he realized people were being mislead. Get on that damn twitter account and broadcast the problem regardless of dealer action.

If he’d jumped on that grenade we wouldn’t be here. You own a company and you own the transparency. End of story, nothing else is pertinent to the conversation.

Exactly. Sounds like plenty of the well known dealers are not interested in misrepresenting his products as USA made. They sure changed it right quick when the SHF. The buck stops at Hoback. Blaming others is never a good look. Ask Survive. Wonder if Jake knows Guy?

To be fair guy is actually better than Jake. At least he kept his stuff usa made. The shops he used are in America. Jake quietly started making knives in China and elsewhere and stood quietly by as they were sold as American made. Knowing full well that was a lie.

You know, I was saying this exact thing for like ten pages, but some folks refuse to nail any culpability whatsoever to Blowback's door over this. It's all those evil DEALER'S fault! If it wasn't for them, poor Jake woulda gotten away with his game of charging high end US knife prices for his Chinese made knives! Talk about your dramatic reveal.

Just my opinion, but I don't think there's any reason to take this so personally that we stoop to twisting his name around and substituting cute but insulting variations.

If we stick to the facts as we know them, everyone benefits. Perhaps not everyone, but you know what I mean.

There's still a chance to set the record straight as regards unanswered questions. Whether they are answered or not is up to those individuals with direct knowledge.

I will admit that the "comedy of innocent errors" explanation is hardly satisfying. The truth is out there.

That's fair. I just think the way he acted over this whole thing has been disingenuous, and I detest people who act like their bad actions are someone else's fault. That, on top of some of his other admissions where he's essentially burned the knife collecting public makes me have very little respect for him with his humble little hat-in-hand "This is how I feed my family, can you forgive me?" act. Heh, not much driving need to "correct" dealers when "made in the USA" was garnering you all those sales, eh Jake?

I just find it funny how this wasn't a problem until his shenanigans were discovered, causing him to inadvertently admit to what he'd been doing.

Edited to add: Also, given the tone of Jake's initial email to that member who had a problem with one of his knives, that passive aggressive lowkey gaslighting Jake was doing didn't sit well with me, so if he reads this thread and is insulted, that's just too bad.

Holy crap. 25 pages!

As I played “devil’s advocate” earlier in this thread, I just wanted to touch on what I actually think.

I agree with that where Jake’s knives are made should have been marked…somewhere, anywhere. I mean, really, who cares if this model is made all USA and that model is made “overseas.” State it. Just like most other companies do!

If Hoback was aware that his products were intentionally/accidentally being advertised as made in the USA, he should have gotten out in front of that a loooooong time ago. It does look like he rode the “made in America” train knowing that it was not correct.

The non transparency bugs me a lot. I don’t care to know the origin of every single part, but if you are having scales and blades made overseas…don’t let people assume that to be USA made.

He dug his own grave, and the problem rests on him. Label your stuff, man. Show honesty and integrity. It’s not too much to ask.

I’ve seen pictures of him set up at various Blade Shows that all draw massive numbers of people. Since his knives nor the packaging say ”made in USA” or “made in XXX”(remember prior to this year the website reflected no info on the situation either), there has to be plenty of people, knife dealers and reviewers included, who have asked him at these shows where his knives are made.

Since this is suddenly big news, I’ll assume he hasn’t been outright telling people that plenty of completed knives have been and are made overseas.

A lot of assuming in this this thread.

Rut row, everyone! It's that guy who called two dealers in here liars, and is Jake's #1 defender! Care to address that with Whitty and Jordan today, on how it's their fault that Hoback has been deceiving people this whole time?

We're assuming things? We're running with his own admissions from last night, try to keep up, thanks.

What is there to address? They listed the knives as USA made and they may or may not have been made in the USA. Hoback didn't tell them they were. I guess he's supposed to be both a knife maker and a copy editor for every online retailer?
