When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

Lying by omission is only a serious matter in certain cases.. like the disclosure agreement on a house. Not telling people where his knives are made isn't the same as failing to report termite damage or flooding in the basement.
Fair enough, I'll agree that we're not talking about the same level of damage done.

Truthfully, Hoback's knives are as good today as they were two or three days ago. But again, the issue is the lie itself. People like to "vote with their dollars", so when they choose to buy a knife that's purported to be made in the USA, they have certain feelings about it, and generally people don't like to be lied to, or feel cheated.

I'm claiming that neither you nor I has any idea if or when he looked at his listings on various retailer sites.

Some of his dealers clearly list only the information Hoback provided, which did not include a COA. See Knifejoy's listings for example.
So yeah, that's plausible to you. 5 years of not looking at ANY of 28 dealers websites. But..... he tried to correct them, didn't he? That means he looked. Liar.

shinyedges shinyedges

that hoback knife ya destroyed was a Shepard model? or was it a different model? if so it was made in China per hobacks list. good riddance........

At least it makes sense now why he couldn't adequately repair my A15 Slimline when it came to me with a messed up blade from the factory. His Chinese OEM forgot to plug the pivot/bearing pockets and detent path before acid washing, which made the surfaces super uneven and rough. His "repair" was to somewhat polish those areas after the fact and send it back. That didn't change the uneven surface of the steel and it remained a gritty mess. Now I'm doubly pissed that I spent $525 on it. That could have gotten me a CKF integral or super pimped out Reate.

The screen shot of his knife origin is in this thread too. So video and chart are saved.
Yep. I also have his chart, and initial "explanation" post saved.

Does anyone here happen to know who was talking about this before he decided to "get in front of it" and speak up? Obviously something was about to happen, he didn't just bring it up out of nowhere and ruin his own brand for fun.

No, I'm not using hearsay. The guys from USA Made Blades and DLT have posted here. The former said he based his false COA on things he heard on Podcasts and on Youtube reviews. The latter said he had no discussions with Hoback about COA.
oh and hey... wait a second- I thought Jake had been on the horn with all of these dealers repeatedly setting the story straight?

truth here is, like it or not, hoback knew what he was doing was wrong.....he admitted it in his now deleted video. he didn't do anything until he saw his paycheck was going to get affected. he also said so in his video. refering to the business takes care of him and his family.

until he was caught and realized his paycheck was at risk..... he didnt do anything to fix it, said so himself from fear of blowback and gaining a bad reputation. he said himself hes the leader and the captain and it all fell on him....all his fault. his own words......

the rest of dealer this and that doesn't matter.

This dude grenaded his reputation on bladeforums for Jake hoback. Jake, send this man a China made knife.
I hope he makes a better case in the courtroom than he does in the court of public opinion or he should find another line of work.

(He's still free to post in this thread...until his continued failure to answer a question directly proves his undoing.)

I think this is a grey area for liability. Hoback may or may not have intentionally failed to correct the matter.. good luck proving it. All he has to say is “I don’t recall”. People that made assumptions about the COO think they’re on a roll and will assume the worst… and I think the matter should just get corrected and everyone move on with life. What, are people just going to be mad at Hoback forever? There are makers doing worse things out there. Unfortunately at this point in the thread, the struggle has become the reward and I think this argument is just going to go in circles forever until people run out of gas.
