When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

Are you somehow implying that deletion of social media posts = guilt?
Not necessarily, but people who are innocent of wrongdoing typically don't try to hide evidence, remove their own records from the public view, and block input from others. He went out of his way to delete his apology video, explanation, and COO chart, then ban users who criticized him and locked all further comments. If he didn't do anything wrong why would he do that?

Isn't what you're suggesting... exactly what DLT has done here, in this very thread?
If so I didn't see it, and that's possible, because I haven't read every post in this mind-bending thread. If so, hats off to them for admitting a share of the blame.

Yep, we’ve now moved on to the “heavy damage control” portion of this evening’s performance.
(Not that you’ll read this or allude to the fact you will)… but what in your opinion should Hoback do to correct this situation?

People are big on accusations and insults.. not hearing any solutions. Does anyone WANT a solution?

Jake has deleted comments from his posts, blocked countless amount of people, and how now removed every single once of his posts related to this topic and turned off commenting on every post. Does this sound like something a person who made an honest mistake would do?
3D Anvil 3D Anvil is this really the kind of person you're working so hard to support in his hour of need?

Ah, okay. So if I were to say “I can tell someone is guilty just by looking at them”, what would your reaction be?

Let's start with atonement

Where did Hoback post the country of origin table? I don't have a Facebook or Instagram account, so anything not visible without a login is inaccessible to me; I also don't see it on his website. (I'm not questioning that it exists, I just want to be able to link to it.)

Unrelated, but his Instagram videos seem to be gone (at least without an Instagram account). Fortunately there's a YouTube version:

It was shared much earlier in this thread:

For the record, if I'd known my $575 Husky was made in China, I wouldn't have paid $575 for it. Assuming a reputable manufacturer (which Hoback hasn't disclosed) like Reate or WE, I'd have paid $400 tops; it's extremely well-made, an unusual design, and the fit and finish is on point for that price point. I thought I was supporting a small American company which had done some/all of the manufacturing for my knife in-house in the USA, and that $575 is in line with companies like Medford and Hinderer that actually fit that description.

This whole mess leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I don't like being misled. (Does anyone?) I will most likely wind up selling my Husky at a significant loss, pricing it like a high-end Chinese production knife rather than a high-end American production knife.

I've been in scores of them, and this is how it would go:

ATTNY: Could you read from this printout of your webpage where it says, country of origin?

RTLR: It says USA.

ATTNY: And did Jake Hoback or anyone in his employ tell you that the knives were made in the USA?

RTLR: No.

ATTNY: I move to dismiss.

JUDGE: Granted.
I keep wondering where you’re getting the info that he never told a single dealer where his knives were made. 28 dealers just assuming, that seems to make more sense to you. Odd.

whitty whitty also attested to as much, for their part. Not sure if you missed that as well, that was back on page 3.

Exactly. If I knew the A15 Slimline was Chinese I'd have never paid $525 for it. I have NOTHING against Chinese knives at all, I've owned and loved tons of them, but for $525 you can get something really nice from a top Chinese OEM. Not a basic 20CV/titanium framelock with micarta. And one that's defective to boot.

Where was the screw made?

What is this, a witch-hunt? Since I represent God, I will strive to uphold all the heavenly virtues in my response to you. I never once made claims that the screw referred to in my previous comment was 100% made in the USA. Although I have seen claims otherwise and have actively tried to correct misinformation, we all know too well how hard it is to get correct information in today's social media driven world. I will state it again for the record -- brancron has never claimed 100% made in the USA (in reference to said screw).

I have always been in the position that I do not divulge with specifics as to where said screw is made or where I have it made. When asked, my statement has always been "I don't say where things are made, here is what I offer."

How do I turn off replies to my comments?

[OK, fun's over. It is exhausting being a blowhard! 😁]

Pretty sure plenty of people have suggested solutions.

Posting that COO chart was a good start. He said he was going to have his web dev update his official website with COO on all products, that would have been good. Instead he backtracked and deleted all that.

He should make the COO transparent, apologize for potentially misleading anyone, and move on. That's really all he needs to do. Taking back stock from or crediting vendors who felt misled would be a solid move too.

I asked a simple question. It's a yes or no question. Is it something an honest person would do, YES or NO?
Doesn’t matter. Some people delete posts if people are flaming them or trolling too much. Some delete them because they think it’s damage control… why does it matter? You know what they say about assumptions?

Sir, can you please tell the court if this is new information that you learned as a result of these proceedings?
More or less, I accept some of the blame for not following the idea of "buyer beware."

If I would have put any thought into the quantity of knives sold by Hoback, I should have known that they could not have been made all in the USA. There are just too many models and numbers to all be coming from his small facility in Idaho. $100k in inventory at one retailer is a lot of knives.

However, I do see Jake as slimy and lying by omission to some degree.

Not blaming dealers would be great.

Post #661 has a link to what appears to be a screenshot of the COO table.

He could have just turned off comments. He didn't have to nuke every mention of this drama.
