When it's not exactly Made in the USA - Hoback

I hope he makes a better case in the courtroom than he does in the court of public opinion or he should find another line of work.

(He's still free to post in this thread...until his continued failure to answer a question directly proves his undoing.)
That kind of dishonesty is what gives attorneys a bad name.

Often times there are two sides to the story, there are ambiguities, there are reasonable disagreements to be had, and the rule of lenity should apply to the accused. Here, however, that is decidedly not the case.

My official diagnosis, as a proud holder of a doctorate in knife psychology, is that anyone defending Hoback must have a screw loose.
Where was the screw made?

I think this is a grey area for liability. Hoback may or may not have intentionally failed to correct the matter.. good luck proving it. All he has to say is “I don’t recall”. People that made assumptions about the COO think they’re on a roll and will assume the worst… and I think the matter should just get corrected and everyone move on with life. What, are people just going to be mad at Hoback forever? There are makers doing worse things out there. Unfortunately at this point in the thread, the struggle has become the reward and I think this argument is just going to go in circles forever until people run out of gas.
you've never been in a business civil court case. it isnt the way you think it is there in that post at all......

Oh I’m sorry, are you filing a civil dispute against Hoback for “lying about the origin of his knives”? Haven’t we been over and over and over again this whole “don’t talk about things unless (appeal to authority inserted here)? Give it a rest. I have opinions on fast cars.. do I need to be a Ferrari mechanic to say them?

I think the retailers should come out and admit that Hoback never provided them a COA and they didn't ask him where the knives were made. They should admit that they assumed that all the knives were made in the USA, just because Hoback is a small maker who definitely makes some knives in the USA, and some podcasters and youtubers claimed the knives were made in the US.

Because -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- no retailer has claimed that Hoback told them the knives were made in the USA.

From what I gather, they assumed the COO based off his marketing, and never verified it.. and Jake never provided it. There is share in the blame here for both sides. The best way forward is to fix the COO issue with all distributors, credit for returns of all the foreign made knives or discount them (an agreement with dealers), and figure out how to handle returns.

If dealers decide to discontinue their business relationship with Hoback, or vice versa, so be it. Everyone moves on with life, as disappointing as it all is.

I've been in scores of them, and this is how it would go:

ATTNY: Could you read from this printout of your webpage where it says, country of origin?

RTLR: It says USA.

ATTNY: And did Jake Hoback or anyone in his employ tell you that the knives were made in the USA?

RTLR: No.

ATTNY: I move to dismiss.

JUDGE: Granted.

Isn't what you're suggesting... exactly what DLT has done here, in this very thread?

"how do we really stay we 'know' anything?" - I took those intro to philosophy courses, too.
If people or distributors don't know something so simple about Hoback knives like "where is it made?", it's only because Hoback didn't do his job.
End of story- stop pretending that there's more going on here.

Jake has deleted comments from his posts, blocked countless amount of people/accounts, and has now removed every single one of his posts related to this topic and turned off commenting on every post. Does this sound like something a person who made an honest mistake would do?

Are you somehow implying that deletion of social media posts = guilt?

I remember a time where people were more upset about makers that took their money and didn’t make them a knife. Now it seems they’re more upset with people that don’t monitor distributors for correct COO info.

For anyone who missed it, Jake Hoback has now deleted his initial "explanation" post, the chart listing country of origin for all his products, and his apology video, and disabled comments on his entire Instagram.
Yep, we’ve now moved on to the “heavy damage control” portion of this evening’s performance.
