Your newest addition:traditionals of course!

It is probably inappropriate to post something like this, but I am still trying to wrap my head around this.

I just made the most ridiculous knife acquisition in my life. I got
this (the first Case knife I vere laid my hands on):

for about 255 USD for all shipped to my door. How insane is this?!

I sure am going to share this joy with a guy that ushered me into the rabbit hole of traditional slip joints.
Epic score!!!

I think it was a couple of years ago that I saw a picture of a Case Swayback Gent in ocean blue bone with bomb shield and four-line threaded bolsters. I thought it was exceptionally beautiful. Last week while traveling I got a chance to make a second visit to the Case Platinum Dealer where I bought my Case Select Wharncliffe Mini Trapper last year (Winterbottom jigged brick red bone, 1 of 250). They had the entire ocean blue bomb shield family in stock! I considered the Gent but since I have a couple in other colors now I decided to go with something else. The Half Whittler was tempting. I was sure (based solely on photos) that I wouldn’t like the Teardrop (TB62028), but I was wrong (forgive me, Tony, for ever doubting you). It felt perfect in my hand, the slim spear blade looked so elegant, and the tiny pen blade balanced it perfectly. The flush back springs in all three positions and the wraparound spring on the pen blade were bonuses. That’s the one I brought home.

By the way -- speaking of Tony Bose designs -- they also had several Tony Bose Eureka Jacks in stock. The clerk opened the cabinet and let me examine one. Oh, my. I don’t have a need for a $450 knife, but what a gorgeous example of craftsmanship. Glad I got a chance to actually hold one!

I got the chance to handle one at the Case Factory store in Bradford a few weeks ago. I was really tempted! What a great knife!

Does the Dan Burke barlow have Winterbottom scales?

I also got my Michael May lambsfoot in bocote wood today. Appearance wise, it is a very nice looking knife. Detail wise, I'm pretty disappointed. I was looking for a well made, almost flawless example of a Sheffield lambsfoot. What I got was a pretty nicely assembled knife with one of the poorest grinds I've seen on one of these. The grind is off center, with a "normal" appearance at the grind termination, by the choil area, on one side of the blade, with almost no termination at all on the other side. There is a slight swedge out toward the end of the blade.... on one side only. Looking down on the spine of the blade, it looks crooked, because of the weird, sloppy grind. Both of my A.Wright lambsfoot knives have very nice grinds... I don't know why this one turned out the way it did. I'd send it back, but it took almost 6 weeks to get this one here... I can't imagine how long it would take to get a replacement.

That does look pretty bad. Too bad it's such a hassle to send it back.

AT LAST! been on the hunt for one of these for ages and due to Forum solidarity I was able to get one at reasonable cost, many thanks Justin :thumbsup:

After a clean up and sharpening, it's ready. Loud snap and fine W&T on this one,

Nice score, Will. I've always liked those and I need to get one myself one of these days.

Yes... I didn't notice any huge variation in the straightness of the edge itself... it's ok, perhaps not "great", but ok. I suppose if I can get a decent edge on this one, it will be a good user... with, um... "character"..

I won't be ordering any more from him, though, when for about half the price I can get an equal or better knife from Wright. It's kind of sad, I had hoped that his work was going to be "special"..:(

The Dan Burke has saw cut bone scales per this picture:

This photo is not from my camera but came from the seller. When I received the knife it was not in perfect condition so I have asked Glennbad to bring the main blade back to factory finish and remove some fine scratches which probably happened at the factory.

I too, am awaiting my Michael May knife. Recently I found out that he purchases most of the knife parts from A Wright including the springs, blades, liners, etc. I am unsure as to how much he actually does other than hand assemble each knife. I was disappointed to hear that after I had ordered mine. Not sure I would have spent the money to buy one from him had I known but the knife didn't break the bank so.... I recently received a special order knife for A Wright and was a little disappointed with the main blade being off center and the spring gaps being a little too large. But again, the knife didn't cost me much compared to other knife brands out there and the over all construction of the knife is robust. Not really what i would consider to be collector grade but a real good user.

Sorry to hear how disappointed you were and especially how poor the grind was on the main blade. I hope mine turns out well. I'll keep you informed.

That's a nice looking Queen, though... good combination of blades, IMHO. I prefer a spearpoint, and I like having access to a straight edge (wharncliffe/sheepfoot), so that is a really nice combination.

I considered sending a message to Mr May, simply to see his response, but I don't think it would be worth the effort and cost to send it back and forth. I still think it's a very nice looking knife, from 2 feet away...:) The scales are very nicely done, and the backbone of the knife is pretty much flawless... overall, very attractive. The blade is well centered, and is relatively easy to open. I figure I'll just use it, and not worry about the wacky grind. I hope yours is a better example.... I had not heard that he buys parts from A.Wright. I guess it makes some financial sense, as long as they aren't dumping "seconds" on him... which may be the case, after seeing my knife.
