As a hard user of knives, I worry about KAI's direction.

I think that the op was going soley off the looks, or at least the aprarint slimmnes of the 0454, relative to the 0300, and is going of the assumption that wider means hard use, while slim is weak... I could be wrong.
Since the only new knife ive looked into is the 0454, id say that (going with said assumption) it apprars weaker because its slim (well, not when u account for the length...) wich doesnt really mean much...

Ok i think im soundig confusing now, what i think is that the op was only accounting for the looks of the new line up, which apear slimmer, thus to some (not the case for me) weaker or not good for hard use

I got a little concerned when the MOD gave a knife to a member who offered to sell his soul. WTF is that all about.

Not sure what I'm more confused about...how this pertains to this thread at all or why you'd be concerned about such a thing.

It's not just looks. If I'm doing something on a 110 degree job site and leave my knife sitting in the sun for an hour, I'll be able to pick up something with G10 scales. Titanium or aluminum on the other hand I'm going to have to let cool. Add sweat to that occasion even with out the heat of the knife itself and fine grit carbon fiber or blasted titanium isn't going to give as good of a grip. That's not to say those other knives aren't tough, just that they're not geared towards such tasks.

I also stopped preferring metallic scales for winter use too. Leave them in the glovebox when it's -10 out, take off your winter gloves and pick it up. Discomfort is an understatement, and if you add a little bit of handsweat it can make your opinion sour rather quickly.

When I used to work in the automotive restoration field, I was regularly cutting radiator hoses, fuel lines, copper wires, and at times even steel tubing. Also add in scraping crud and rust off of parts, prying panels apart, and sometimes even piercing body panels of vehicles for access location. Sure the 0777 might do that stuff, but is it really practical to use to that extent?

And I know someone is going to call me out for not using the right tool for the job, but guess what. If my ZT does all that with out a hiccup, it was exactly the tool I was looking for.

KAI already responded and eased my worries. I was not trashing them, nor were they offended. They're a damn good company and when I need a folder they're my first stop. So please save the emotional responses calling my credibility into question as KAI has restored my faith and condescending posts from people with no real stake in the company does no good for a resolved topic.

You know, if you kept your pocketknife...in your pocket, you wouldn't have that many hot/cold handle issues.

Just saying...

Wasnt trying to offend at all, in fact i get your handle material preference, so if i get this right, are u sayig that the materials in the handle arent up to par for hard use, but are u saying the same towards the actual blade? Anywho, im probably not the one to speak, but i wasnt trying to sound condesending.

Isn't that the same case for the 0300???
I do believe so.

Carbon fiber is 5X stronger than steel (IIRC)
trust me I know, i meant what he was saying about the temp, and slip conditions...

Im confused, the part i was replying to wasnt in his post after i hit the post button???

Maybe he shouldn't leave knives lying around....Temp issue fixed.
Slip conditions.......Well Aluminum is slick so I'll give him that, but I've gripped my 0550 with oil on my hands and it was grippy enough. And CF (like on the 0777) is also pretty grippy. I don't know what's on his hand that makes knives so slippy, but maybe he should wear gloves while working with said material. Or get a manlier grip.
Yes, because knives being outside of your pocket is blasphemy!

For an hour??? In 110 degree weather????

This might just be me, but lets all take a fiver and cool down, i think things are getting slightly heated...

Wow. I honestly don't know what to think if leaving a knife out for an hour is considered neglect. Not to stir the pot, but that train of thought is laughable. Not everyone uses their knife the same way, and to write off my opinion because I've used knives on construction sights, in junk yardsx in automotive shops, and in the woods with out immediately returning it to my pocket really says a lot as to why you can't understand my preferences.

No. The 0300 was designed specifically as a no frills rugged knife.

Yea, a rugged KNIFE. It's not a set of wire cutters, or a chisel, or a prybar, or the other crap you use your knives for!!!!
Any knife ZT makes (including the 0300) could probably do all this crap, but it's still not practical, or designed to!!!

It's not neglect, no one ever said that. We said your problems could easily be resolved if you DID return it when it's not in use.

You're getting emotional over what I do with my knives why?

You're getting emotional over my preferences towards products you own as well why?

You're getting emotional over something KAI acknowledged and reassured me on why?

My ZT's have done everything I've asked them to. That's not your problem, nor does it give you the right to be so insulting. There's hundreds, if not thousands of people who use their ZT's harder than me without issue. A knife is about the most modular tool you can get for tasks you need done in a pinch.
