Help CapeCod508 scammed me

Rhyno37, request it to be a USPS Money Order. As Esav mentioned, they can check it there at the post office without you having to wait and see if it clears or bounces at the bank.

I would second this, not that it means the guy will actually do it.

Has the scammer told anyone else he'd give them their stuff back. He's changing the story, originally he said he traded off everything already

Sending or switching the contents of a trade is one of the worst or hardest scams to recover from shy of not receiving anything at all.

By being able to claim that it was an "honest mistake" I just sent the wrong package line, it removes the criminal element to some extent and law enforcement is more likely to say it's a civil matter at that point.

The scamer is counting on your not being willing to follow threw on a civil action, across state lines and for an item with a value of less then $50-$100.

Not saying it's fool proof or will always work. But it's one of the more common scams we see all the time. The fact that most thieves aren't all that smart works in your favor. If enough people complain about the same person to the local authorities and Postal inspectors perhaps they will take interest and go after the person or persons doing it.

The fact that you saved all your correspondence and other people were victims of the same scamer will go a long way in helping you prove that this was actually a scam and not just a mistake as this person is claiming. I hope you follow threw either way and sincerely hope everyone gets their property back.

This really is so disgusting on so many levels...

We it looks like the post office was able to intercept my knife and is returning it to me.... This putz asked me, get ready for it: "to please return his video game when I get my knife back" roflmao!

He can get it when he pays me the bucks I spent on the priority mail, insurance AND the fee to get the package intercepted....amazing, just amazing

Hope everyone gets their stuff back and thanks to the mods for coming down hard on this guy

Glad you got to it in time.

I wonder if the person at the second address that was given knows it's being used to scam people online?

Sh00ter,

The "person" I dealt with was named Tara Waldroup, as per linked in she is a nurse practitioner at a psych center in Hyannis Mass. I am gonna call her and her employer on Monday and find out what would happen if the Mass Nursing Board and her employer heard about her being involved in what may be mail fraud? Perhaps she is this idiot's squeeze being used as mail drop as well as other things. Either way, perhaps pressure on her can yield results with "Chris".. I will let you know

Keep us updated pwerfel, I'm gonna see if I get that money order before I take action. In the mean time I'm gonna talk to my uncle (sheriff) and the District attorney (friend of the family) and see what the best course of action is

and for the other bandwagon poster who just carried your water, the same applies to you.

Note to self......agreeing with someones valid point is the same as being a bandwagon poster and carrying their water. Glad I learned something today.:) alnamvet68, it wasn't a pile on as you interpreted it, just feedback on your foolproof system.....take it or leave it.....as you indicated, ya left it. So be it. No offense meant, and I appreciated your feedback.

Back on actual topic...hope everyone gets made whole one way or another. this whole deal reminds me of gypsies and there scams. Wonder if the address used is some poor innocent or one of those involved in this debacle?

Yes take action. It's only a matter of time before this becomes more of a serious crime to law enforcement. Hopefully sooner than later

This was a deliberate and carefully planned scam. The tremendous degree of involvement and cooperation of the members who got scammed is what made tracking down the bad guys so easy. Basically, the mods just put together the information you all figured out.

When the police and Inspectors investigate, they may find other scams in progress. Once they do, it becomes a conspiracy. Judges do not like conspiracy, the very definition of premeditated criminal activity.

I say you should go to the police and post officers regardless of his sending you the money or not. He's a criminal and it is your duty as a citizen to report him to the authorities and help them with all information you have to catch him and put him behind bars. Most of the time criminals do that because they know that people don't want to bother and go through all that work for just 50 bucks. But 50 here, 25 there, and he can make a living out of this. Crime is crime. Go to the police. At least the police over there in US usually works. It's not like here in Brazil. Other day I called emergency (the brazilian version of 911), and was put on hold for several minutes before the call dropped, then repeated that three more times until I could talk to an officer. Imagine if I had Jason chasing me with a chainsaw...

Alnamvet68 is not being unreasonable. Having a paid account here is not the same as having a paid internet account. That paid internet account ties you to an address known to your iSP.

True. Gmail, yahoo and similar free services are easy to abuse than paid Internet accounts with AT&T, Comcast and similar companies. Will it stop scams? No - but a scammer has to be stupid enough to use an account that law enforcement can trace to the registered address if the need be. Think of it as the 4" raised sidewalk which makes walking much safe.

Unless a transaction is ftf, scamming cannot be ruled out, but made more difficult.

I'm not saying he's being unreasonable, just that in protecting himself he's limiting his acquisition base significantly. Obviously it's up to everyone to determine their comfort level when it comes to online transactions. I personally hate talking on the phone, and refuse to do so with anyone other than immediate family and very close friends. My hearing loss makes it very difficult to hold a phone conversation. I've also been using my yahoo email address for well over a decade now, and have no interest in adding a non-permanent ISP account to the already long list of things I need to keep track of.

Again, not saying that he's wrong by any means, just that he may be limiting good options more than protecting himself from bad ones.

Has anyone else talked to the scammer more? If you get your items back be sure to let us know

Agreed, on both points. My reason for not talking on the phone is a little different, instead of hearing loss I have an injury from a few years ago that makes breathing hard for me. The straining seems a lot more obvious on the phone. I never liked talking on the phone that much before that.

I've had my email address through 3 deployments and even more ISP changes.

You are 2 of the positive feedback for twaldroup1980, who has the same mailing address as CapeCod508 who scammed you. Doesn't make sense to me.

twardroup1980, CapeCod508, sethritchie1, jazzyj488, and jesusio members; might want to be looked into as it looks like they might be using multiple accounts to boost feedback score (just looking through the thread they've posted in.

Nope I am not a fake account. I got scammed too and reported negative feedback to the forum. I sent over a Spyderco Military and got a bianchi police belt. As soon as my item was out for delivery the twaldroup1980@gmail.com stopped working. I didn't realize what had happened until I tried to contact this "person" and the email address and google plus account were dead. I didn't do my due diligence and got scammed. Bad on me. I'm an active user on head-fi (headphone nerds) and am usually just buy and sell and not trade. That'll teach me. If anyone is able to get in contact with this person, please PM me the info. My contact address is dead, and I shipped to the same address as everyone else in South Yarmouth. Such is life.

I noticed jesusio was checking thread and didn't bother to post claiming innocence.

I don't really need to claim innocence. I got ripped off just like you. Let the mods do their job.

Which scammers are still running around the forums?

We don't ban on an accusation.
We don't ban if there is still a chance of them cooperating.

Sorry to hear you got scammed too, I'll edit my other post so your name won't pop in a search of the GBU.
