Well Sir, I reckon it means he's a thief, pure and simple. Ol' Bubba there will do some tired song and dance routine but the bottom line is that Larry Harley has had YEARS and ample opportunity to do the right thing. Instead he continues to act as if nothing out of the ordinary is going on.
I wonder what his contemporaries in the custom knife field think about this? How do we get the word out?
I want my knife/sheath. Not what I originally paid for it. The few examples I've found for sale are going for much more than I originally sent him, around FOUR YEARS AGO! YEARS, dammit!
IF Bubba had a lick of sense (Doubtful) he'd back the hell up.

All he has done is take money from others and have the property of others and is making no effort to return anything and he does not give a crap.

Hi everyone,
You know I have been giving this some thought. It is fairly easy to see what type of man Harley is. He gives little concern to those he has cheated. I agree he has problems, and I feel sorry for him. But even in times of trouble, he could still be a man about things. It is pretty obvious that he has stolen from people here and seems to be more than willing to continue this activity. It is indeed pitiful to see a once great knife smith sink to this level. We all know him for what he is, willing to hide behind another forum member who supports him blindly, but can’t back up his statements. If he were a man he would stand up and fix things.

Since 99% of us agree on his character it doesn’t help to keep telling ourselves the same thing. We should try to spread the word outside of this forum so others don’t get taken by this charlatan. I will try to find other forums to add comments to, so should we all.
Anyone can feel free to use my posts.

I already told you guys what to do, make a formal complaint. As things are its just a bunch of morons typing away on the net. Now you guys have lowered yourselves to calling the man a thief, scum bag, and other nonsense.

and there u have it thats how u get soooo far behind
working and still makeing nothing

Some people need to go back and read this again. Larry has laid it out in plain English. His health is gone, he gets tired easy, he hammers as much as he can but he is not a twenty year old. He made a living off making knives all these years, he deserves to be treated with respect here on Bladeforums.

Maybe nobody noticed but businesses are filing for bankruptcy every single day in this economy. Larry could have just closed the shop and said forget about it. Instead he is hammering as much as he can and probably will till the day he dies.
 
That was over six months ago. he has had more than ample time to repay some of those he owes.

heck, I have had my share of medical issues but there is a right way and a wrong way. Just saying I am sorry means nothing without actions to make things right. Maybe Larry's buddies need to pony up and help him get out of this jam.

It costs very little to RETURN knives sent to larry for repair, etc.

It costs even less for Larry to communicate to his victims personally and in real time.

My bet is on larry still owing everyone and promising to repay them until the day he dies

Don't talk about respect and call people morons for wanting

1) their property
2) their money
3) or at the very least, communication

Insulting other members is a violation of our rules.

Two of the knives we're talking about here were sent in to resolve "Issues" and never returned. Don't have to make those, just return them. Unless of course they were sold to others.
The third complainant paid for a knife and didn't receive it. Thats not how one "Makes a living making knives". In case you've forgotten, the customer is supposed to receive the goods payed for as part of the deal.
From his lack of communication with his victims, he has said "Forget about it".
From one person to another, I pray for his health to improve and his reputation restored. As a fellow owed quite a bit of valuable property, I'm pissed and want my knife back.

This is a venue where people can post a complaint/warning to others. Viewed by thousands who actually spend their hard-earned money on knives.
No knife organization will see to it that those ripped off will be made right.
I may not get my knife back but I can damned sure try to prevent others from ending up in the same boat.
If I ever find my original USPS money order receipt I'll contact the Poatmaster. Maybe the Fed's will be able to do something. Our fellow from Australia ought to look into mail fraud charges also.
Bubba, I'm scheduled to work the next 349 days straight. I have to prove myself at work every day. No health insurance, Nada. If I get a day off, its a blessing. Don't you dare try to counsel me about work ethic.
The money I spent on that knife was hard-earned and alot, for me.
I also vested Mr. Harley with my trust. That grates most of all. Honor, respect, etc.,. aren't just words, to many. I'd like to see his restored. Apparently you're not getting that. Thats your problem, not the folks who were wronged.

He sees it as standing up for a friend. What gets me, what warrants the hypocrite label, is when I think of bubba's presence in the Strider threads and his interactions with people, friends of Striders', who were doing the exact same thing as him- defending something with no regard for what is actually going on. "But this is different, he's my friend!" :rolleyes:

Given Harley's circumstances, I expect anyone involved would be, if not happy, at least understanding so long as they had some communication, some small indication that he is at least attempting to make things right. You know, instead of just making a post every few years with reference to free knives...
 
What is truly ironic in Bubbanumber1's defense of his friend is the damage he is doing to his friend's reputation.

Without his input, we get the occasional unhappy customer posting his complaint, a few responses of similar complaints, and a few sympathetic bystanders.

Now that Bubbanumber1 is heroically facing down his friend's detractors, the thread has only gotten longer and longer, and more vitriolic. Simple forum dynamics: if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. No one else is digging that hole. At most, they were kicking a little dirt around.

Well Sir, Let's ignore Bubba's BS for the moment. Back to the reason I started this thread:
I received a Battle Bowie from LH back in 06' or 07' and had a couple of issues with it. Sent it back and that was it. Never got my knife/sheath back or a refund. WTF is a fellow supposed to call that?
Back to Bubba: Why should we believe he's a friend of LH? And who gives a rats ass if he is. He's not the one got cheated.

I'm not sure what I would call it, I just know I'd be pissed. For the record, as far as there are sides here, I'm on yours.

The point with Bubba as I see it is, were he not Harley's friend, he would either condemn Harley's behavior harshly or simply be ambivalent. It's a double standard, hypocrisy, and it has accomplished nothing but to make more people aware of Harley's business practices. Or lack thereof.

I went back and read it again. Look at the part where Larry says "I took money I shouldn't have". Sorry he had or has cancer, but a thief is a thief. He may be your BFF Bubbanumber, but he's still not an honorable man.

I want to make something else clear while I'm in the mood for flapping my jibs. Some of the best men I've met in my life were fellow Marines from the South. Theres something about these true Son's of the South that I've personally had nothing but the best experience with, no matter their personal financial or social background.
Good, honorable men who would go to hell and back with you. There's a part of me that prays that Mr. Harley will get back on track and show us that this is just unfortunate circumstances and he's GTG afterall.
You might notice I wrestled with the decision to post this for YEARS before finally starting this thread.
It's my belief that a true friend will smack a fellows reset switch if he finds him in error. Reckon Bubba doesn't get that.
