NWA knife passaround

allright.. looking forward to hearing your review...

i can't wait to get me grubby little paws on this one...:o

Off hand I want to say the blade is 2 7/8" long, 1/8 thick (or was it 3/32?) and I believe the micarta color is called natural.
Pictures up soon.

The more I use, the more I want it. It's going to be hard letting this one go.

Anyone have the link to the original thread where Nick posted up the specs on this one and as well as the first NWA forum knife? Oh, and are the handles tan canvas micarta or natural canvas micarta?

Here's my review.

On tuesday, I drove around the neighborhood looking for wood because the trash man comes on wednesday, so someone always has wood waiting to be picked up.

I brought out some other knives to join the fun, but the NWA knife got most the fun.

I thought this piece look like it'd make a good something and the branch coming off made a cool little spike.

The bark on this wood jumped out at the sight of the knife, seriously, it went through the bark very smoothly.

Turns out, that piece makes an awesome baton.

The next piece was a lot tougher. It had small branches growing out of it everywhere, but the knife cleaned it out nicely.

I love the handle and blade shape! I could choke up on it and push cut some of the hard to reach areas. Very easy to control.

Here's what I made that night, a baton, a wooden sword/beat stick (not complete), and a great companion. It didn't look like I did much, but I'm also not as good with a knife as some others, and it took me a couple hours. My thumb got a little sore from all the choking up, but no blisters, not even close.

The edge stayed amazingly sharp, and only took a couple minutes on the sharpmaker and leather strop to bring back.

The next day...my backyard has a couple fruit trees and some of the pears were ready to eat.

I didn't use the knife as much today, but it was light enough to wear around the neck and help me cut some branches quickly to get the fruit.

pears...

some grapes...

Almost done...

Time to eat! The knife is thick enough for bushcraft and thin enough to work easily in the kitchen.

It didn't have much of a patina when I got it, but it sports one now.

I love this knife! The only complaint I might have is the sheath. The sheath looks great and compliments the knife, but the retention is a little on the weak side. On the belt (up carry) that's okay, but I got worried the knife might drop for neck carry. It did hold up well walking around, but I didn't risk running around.

Nick did a great job with this one. Not only does it look beautiful, it functions just as well. The fully contoured handles are really comfortable and easy to handle for light or heavy work. The two set of grooves on the spine are spaced perfectly away from each other to use with and without the choil, and really does help the grip when you have your thumb there. Everything about it is really great. Nick, where do we sign up for one?

nice review man.. you should have come over here to do your review, there is wood and sticks as far as the eye can see... no need for any garbage man... i can't wait to check this beauty out.. it looks like a great all around...:D

drop me a line when you can bring it on over the hill... i might be at an archery shoot on sunday, over at bowhunters unlimited, outside of stevens creek....

Great write up and pics. I do occasionally wear a knife around my neck, but I usually prefer not to. I asked Nick to make a regular sheath for it and he added a firesteel loop too. It makes a great, compact knife that I either attach to my pack strap or carry in my pocket.

Great pics. guys:thumbup:I'm glad that this style is liked for the most part. I know I really like mine:D I can also make it without the choil notch if someone is interested. It will just have a different plunge line.

If anyone wants one, just send me a e-mail to nick@metricsunlimited.com

My lead time is about 6-8 months right now. I wish it could be better but I'm only a one man show.

Thanks again
Nick:)
