Why not Strider??

Neil, do you have pic of the backside of that double sheath? I must say, that is a truly unique set. I like the way he's folded the leather at the top of the large sheath.

What I would like to know is, have Mick or Duane ever admitted that they lied about their service records? The fact that no one's getting sued is pretty much an admission of guilt if I'm tracking this whole thing correctly. I could see some slack being given if they just admitted to making a mistake and asking forgiveness, but to just continue on the same tack as if they'd never been outed is just bush league, IMO.
Mick did, in court. The whole fiasco blew up in his face when he sued someone else over misrepresentation, and then he himself had to admit in a court document that he never deployed, or did pretty much anything else he ever claimed. He still claimed that he went to Somalia after SOCOM came to him, with 18 months service and separated as an E-2; so he could avoid jail time for the carjacking charge, and because he was so high speed that half the roles in Black Hawk Down were actually him working solo.

So he sued someone for saying he lied about his service records when he did lie about his service records and had to know that it would all come out in court and he would be proven a liar. Not smart. Thanks for that info.

Yes, it was Jim Ferguson who taught Mick to forge Damascus and sold him the forge when he retired several years ago.

Mick not only forges the Damascus steel himself, in various patterns, but also does his own leather work.

That's a fantastic looking set of knives.

I just don't get it. Why would guys like this, with apparently that much talent, think they'd have to resort to lieing to everyone to sell something that nice?

In fact, most of the knives sold under the Strider name are very nice looking.

It really is pathetically sad.

Probably to appeal to the "tacticool" crowd, that market being much larger than the custom knife one.

I liked my Striders. I happen to have moved on to other things, but if I ran into an SnG at the right price it would probably end up in my EDC rotation; and the small WP's with paracord wrap have always been a favorite fixed blade.

Buy what you like dude. You don't need to satisfy anyone but yourself.
The key is that you are pleased with your purchase.

p.s. Neil, that is an awesome set. a special for TNK?

Hi

No, not special for us- just something that I saw on their table at a show last year and I grabbed it.

This is a very popular one- the RC Custom Harpoon frame lock folder with Mick Strider's forged Damascus.

"Strider" should be charged under the new "Stolen Valor" law that was put into effect recently because of posers like him.

Buy what you like. However, there are many more honest men of integrity out there that I would rather do business with myself.

I have owned several Striders, including several PT's, one SMF and one SNG. The edges were too thick on the SMF and SNG for me, and I foolishly got rid of them. All of the Striders I owned were great knives, and I am thinking about getting CC models of the SMF/SNG/PT. They were ugly, but I really liked the SMF ergonomics, and blade design. The SMF really fit my big paws like no other folder before or since. Hindsight is 20/20.

I have had good CS from their shop, Josh and Mick took care of me. Josh working with me when I sent my SNG in to have the tiger stripes removed, and Mick taking care of the job himself.

I am not a Strider junky, fanboy etc. I appreciate their knives, and the service I received from Josh Lee and Mick Strider. I am well aware of the controversy, and wish that they would have done things differently. Their knives truly speak for themselves.

In regard to price, I have seen many used but not abused Strider folders, for reasonable prices, online. The SMF I had was a UNERTL edition with the tiger stripes rubbed down, that I traded a small micarta Sebenza for. The SNG was brand new on here and 350 shipped. Of the various PT's, most were in the 200 range. I have seen SNG's and SMF's go for much less than 400 and 450.

Quoted for pure craziness.

Risking your life fighting in foriegn lands is a far cry from collecting trash, delivering mail, or fixing air conditioners. I don't see how you can possibly make that comparison. To me, the comparison alone is disrespectful to those who have done so.

Combat vets hands down deserve more respect than my garbage man. My mind will not be changed on this one. Maybe I spent too much time around my grandfather and vets in general, but what they did seems special to me, more special than when my packages arrive on time. Army infantry, Battle of the Bulge, Blue Ridge division. Just for fun I'm going to ask him if the people under his command who died deserve more respect than my garbage man and see what he says.

It's not WHAT you do that earns respect, it's HOW you do it that matters.

This rule applies to everyone regardless of your status in life or how much money you have. It even applies to the humble garbage collector and soldier equally.

I don't like their fixed blades but I own a couple of Strider folders. An SMF and an AR. Both are strong well built and will not let you down. The AR is arguably the strongest folder on the market, it has over sized everything :D

It is extremely common for vets and non vets to lie about or exaggerate their service record. I'm not excusing it, just saying it's commonplace.

Not quite! It is rather confusing, but if memory serves, it was Chris Osman of TAG (Tactical Action Gear) who had actually sued Strider for Strider having allegedly slandered and accused Osman, an actual former SEAL, of being a fake. It was during those legal proceedings that Strider had to allegedly sign an affidavit stating he had never been deployed into combat and was never a part of a special forces unit.

Oddly enough, a few years back, one of Strider's biggest apologists tried to obfuscate that issue as well by implying that the affidavit was possibly incorrect, and Strider may have allegedly just gone ahead and signed the affidavit to quickly get the whole legal deal over with.

Price included?:D

haha, you are correct sir but at least in this case you do get what you pay for :)

BTW I'm not buying into the rest of the conversation on this thread because it has nothing to do with me, I just wanted to point out that the folders are a good product.

Cheers

So, has this question now been answered 700 or 701 times?

Is a Strider folder a strong EDC?

The other stuff has been posted to death............................

Are the folders strong?

Well, there are two general approaches to making something strong (whether it's a knife, a backpack, a gun, whatever). You can choose materials for strength (rather than, say, trendiness), and design for strength (rather than, say, radical appearance). That makes for something strong.

Another approach is to just make it extremely thick and heavy.

AWOL, No rank, E1 Private, 11 Months, a one way ticket home. All his Army stories are pure BS. Anyone that wants to defend him and what he has done deserves the prison sex he gives his friends and customers.
