If we have soldiers` needs in mind,the best situation would be a Strider-type prybar tanto FB out of S7 or 5160 plus an Endura /Native or a BM AFCK in M2.
The idea that you can have a tough,hard and stainless knife is lunacy,there will always be a compromise and the last thing a soldier`s blade can compromise is toughness.Also,a soldier`s knife shouldn`t cost an arm and a leg,that`s why Greco MST is the best combat knife for the money.

PS.Extrema Ratio makes good combat designs,the bad things are the price,bad stainless steel used for drums containing radioactive waste to be dropped in the ocean (just love this idea),supposedly good strength plus extreme stainlessness (can`t be found in the same chunk of steel),also childish logos on the blades,(combat knives are often sterile and always subdued).

I really don't think S7 (bad edge retention) is a good idea. Dual knives isn't a bad one though. Big fixed, medium sized folder. RC-6 and Spyderco Military.

By the way,has there been a Greco thread?I know,it must be an uncomfortable subject because he he can put the best combat/survival knife in your hand for 50-100$ (those were his prices a few years ago).He deals in knives,not bullshit.I digressed to Greco because he personifies honesty and deliveres quality at an unbeatable price,while Strider....no need to repeat what`s been said already.

If you`ve noticed,the name of this thread contains 3 words:"Why not Strider?",not 1 word "Strider".I`m expaining why not Strider,because there are other makers,especially John Greco who make better combat knives for a lot better price.

I have 10 years of debating politics and economics on libertarian forums in English which is not my native language (I`m not necesseraly libertarian),so I`m acutely aware of all the possible tactics used by those losing a debate such as non-stop personal attacks ,diverting conversation into personal matters such as "is English your native language" etc(it`s a lot better than that of many native speakers on this forum).

PS.In short,Strider is insanely overpriced piece of stainless shit,bought by those who feel macho while "beating" their 500$+ knives.

Note: I'm not losing. You're just ignorant. Smearing Strider (insanely overpriced piece of stainless shit) like that only goes to show that you have (a) nothing further to back up your claim of simple carbon is better, and (b) don't like stainless knives. I can't fault you on the second one, many people have an affinity for simple carbon knives. The first is a terrible waste because you're spamming this thread with another maker whom I've already pointed out doesn't offer a comparable knife to the Strider you are matching it with.

At the same time I wouldn`t give half a shit if you badmouth Greco all day because I don`t care if my MST loses 10% of it`s value and is 45$ now.I have certain knives because I find the best possible deal for the buck and I invest in things that are going up in price infinitely faster than any knife.I`m a knife user,an owner of a small collection and I dabble in making.

This would better serve the community if it were a Greco thread. There is no new ground to tread about Strider, all we've been doing is reminding or educating people about info revealed none too recently. Greco puts out some pretty nice designs for the tactical crowd, imo. Especially for the price and the powder-coated tool steel used. He stopped for a while because of health issues, but is back and still offering up knives at good prices. Though I had one of the folders and liked it for all things except the pivot hole in the blade. It was out of round, which allowed the lockup to vary if you pushed on the blade one way or the other. Still, I have had other production knives in the price range do the same, and the lock held. I'd be a bit more comfortable with one of the fixed blades. Great, now I'm going to lurk the bay again, with a mess of new knives waiting for me back home.

anythingsharp, you have gone past the point of adding to the discussion, be it about Strider, Greco, or knife use in general. Take a break, maybe sharpen up some of those Grecos, they take an edge easily.

Very few people are investors, I buy what I like. I like Strider folders, Spyderco knives, RAT fixeds, Zippo for some flame, Avalon for a smoke. I don't invest, I use and appreciate. You do neither spending your time making an ass of yourself. Congrats.

So let's see what you got. I take it with all the experience you have in fighting knives and the such , you must really make some killer knives. Picts ? Link ? anything ??

The best steels for a combat knife are sawblade or jackhammer steels which have small amounts of chromium,manganese,nickel,moly,vanadium and tungsten that don`t reduce flexibility.

Is this from internet research or personal experience ? Or you just making it up as you go along ?
