• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

make your choice ! survival folder...

As long as it's a proven folder, that is one that I have personally used for quite a while, I wouldn't hesitate one second to pick a folder as my only knife for any situation. I have done a ton of real work with the SAK's None has ever even blinked.

I like these threads...lots say some sort of vic but does that fall into a multi-tool? If just one knife folder as the op stated then I would say a Buck 110. This has proven itself to me time and time again and I love it quite honestly!

SAK, old school.

Really well-made. Chunky with a great saw blade (off set teeth and very substantial).

I see a lot of Buck 110's suggested. Mine is 25+years old and has real soft steel.
It dulls if you look at it the wrong way. :p Plus, I do not trust that tip.

With all of the hard use folders I own and carry, I tend to lean towards my Vic OHT. It has what I use the most when playing in the woods and using a folder. The Rucksack is another choice and I don't have to deal with the serrations of the OHT.

Been using this since they 1st came out and it has never let me down. The AUS-8 steel holds a great edge and is easy to sharpen too. Came with great edge geometry although after a few years of use it has been retouched a few times :) It has been stored wet, worked in the mud, been dropped, survived dusty desert conditions, and even been used more than a few times to pry sheet steel apart at work. Never asked for anything more than a little cleaning and sharpening!

Vic Rucksack and/or TOPS CQT Magnum 747.

Looks like yours is from the first production run Brian; I have a newer one, still a stout, heavy duty folder...I just don't like all the advertisement on the blade:barf: Despite all the logo's and stuff, it's a very heavy duty blade and a really good liner lock.

ROCK6

I also have a Puma Game Warden from the 1970's.Very well made knife and would be my first choice if limited to a folder only.

Finally! I'm glad someone else said it. I've snapped the tip off one 110 and snapped the blade about 1/2" from the pivot on another. Don't get me wrong, Buck makes an excellent folder, but the thread is about a survival folder. Don't think I would trust my life to one.

As far as soft steel, I think they sharpen easily and I can easily give my 110 a wicked edge.

Zero Tolerance MUDD 0500.

Sturdy lock, 154CM steel with good ergonomics and textured scales for use with cold, wet hands or gloves.
