not happy with this transaction

you guys act like i owe you all an apology because you buy knives from other makers.

Nobody but the OP needs or wants an apology. Most everyone else has been trying to explain to you, from a potential customer's point of view, how they would desire the transaction and complaint to be handled.

Can't teach a rock to swim.

Im done here, enjoy your sewing circle ladies.

Anyone got a thimble I can borrow? I just love you guys. :p

mstephen, I'll take this circle over your business any day and twice on Tuesdays. These fellows have character. You've shown very little in this thread.

This is pretty funny, you guys act like i owe you all an apology because you buy knives from other makers.I look through the ugly section and see guys having money stolen from them and your pissing and moaning about my communication skills. Its just stupid.Im done here, enjoy your sewing circle ladies.
The person to whom you owe an apology is the customer who is dissatisfied with your service. You don't owe us an apology because we buy knives from other makers, you owe the community an apology for your crude behavior in this matter and your failure to be able to admit you might be at fault. You are one knifemaker in a sea of knifemakers, most of whom are very good businessmen and a pleasure to deal with. Hopefully this has been as educational for you, as it has been for us. It is unfortunate you feel the need to cut and run, but the first rule of business is: "the customer is always right", i'm sorry but thats just how things are.

After reading all your replies in this thread, it appears to me that you are totally clueless. You have no understanding of sound business practices. You have incredibly poor people skills. It does seem to be a good move for you to find someplace else to sell your knives.

...Your just sheep to me.

Whoa! I just got into customs knives, but dang. Many other makers here are very open and communicative. I even spoke to Tom Krein on the phone in my first attempt to reach him, and he had plenty of time to talk to me about what I wanted. Maybe that's not relevant, but calling thousands of potential customers sheep; I know who I won't be buying knives from.

You guys aren't giving credit where credit is due. This is obviously a well thought-out brilliantly planned strategy based on the successful business models of other abrasive, abusive, hairy he-man testosterone driven knife makers. As the plan develops the price will rise into the hundreds and even thousands of dollars and a whole fan-boy crew of keyboard commandos will form up to rise en mass to smite any unbelievers who question the grail. I see there is already one who has risen.

Ouch! I just stabbed my finger with my sewing needle. Hey guys, does anyone have a "Hello Kitty" bandaid? I can't wait to post my pictures of my quilt. It is a herd of sheep that carry knives to skin wolves with.:D

I have a Dora one if you need.

Sad state of affairs.

I got sanctioned for having Transformers band-aids. Too harsh.

You are enabling the behavior if by buy his knives, Dudley.

I understand where the rest of you are coming from but I had no problem, the communication was there and I feel I got a helluva knife for the money, including a real nice, heavy-duty sheath.

Call me selfish or whatever you so desire but that man took care of me and I will buy another knife from him in the future. I, personally, have no reason to ostracize him for what happened with someone else or the fact that you folks have problems with how he conducts his business.....maybe he just likes me more than you folks. :p ;)

Seriously, I can appreciate everyone's point of view and have no problem with any of them or you but they are not mine.....if and when I have problems with mstephen I would re-think my position.

And you will deserve what you get, however which way it works out.

waiting 2 weeks is not a problem for me.

i've had several instances where the maker/dealer did not communicate well, but i've never got burned. good knife makers, but bad businessman.

however, the blanket insults to the members of this forums are uncalled for. no business from me. ever. too many other better options. baaaaaabaaaabaaaaa.:D

I'm not going to pile on but rather comment that mstephen does not mince his words and states what he thinks.....whether it is well received or not, it is what it is. I, personally, would rather hear this than a bunch of meaningless fluff and verbal blow-jobs in an attempt to placate the masses.

why does it have to be one extreme or the other??

somewhere in the middle is all anyone typically expects or deserves.

people saying what they think is often not a good thing, especially when one's business is concerned. metal editing is one's friend.

there have been very reasonably questions asked here to which mstephen has yet to respond. well, other than additional insulting posts.

-why didn't he answer any emails? he was obviously on line between the purchase date and the shipping date.

-why did it take over two weeks to ship?
--laziness? then say so and apologize.
--too busy? then apologize. the op acknowledges he understands this possibility.

Again, I had no problems, got what I feel is a tremendous piece of work for the $$$'s and am going to get another knife from him when my finances allow. :)

no one is saying he is not a good maker. his knives look very nice and are reasonably priced.

but so are many other makers here. why should i, or anyone, purchase a knife when his responses here are the potential communication style?

Not to sound like Aretha Franklin, but this issue is about R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

I just had a transaction with someone with whom I've had several transactions and he shipped within a few days of my order. Our last transaction took him about three weeks to ship. It was a long time, but I didn't "need" the knives and he told me what was going on - there was a question I had to answer, then a technical issue on his end, and a large commitment to a big customer he had to deal with right before the Blade show.

My point is that we talked about it and it wasn't a big deal. He told me what was going on. I respected the good work he'd done for me and that he had some things to get done before me. On the other hand. if he blew me off and didn't respond at all, he would be showing disrespect verging on the hostile.

I had a mail-order business for several years and learned early on that if you personally acknowledge and thank customers for the order, ship quickly, and provide tracking info., it dramatically reduces the potential for problems. People just want to know that you care/respect them.

Once you have received payment, from that moment on, you are now in possession of someone's property.

Sitting on their money and their property for 15 days without shipping or communicating as to why you haven't is completely inappropriate, especially when in that time you were online selling other knives.

Business interest FAIL!

I think you hit the nail on the head right there Mr. Lamp. There are plenty of very good knifemakers out there producing high quality knives at very reasonable prices. I've dealt with makers who present themselves as decent courteous people willing to show at least a bit of respect towards their customers. I'm not talking about taking crap from people just to make a sale, I'm talking about dealing with people where both parties display basic courtesy for a mutually pleasant transaction. If there are plenty of knifemakers around who can do this, why would you want to deal with one who is happy to publicly display his rude and objectionable behaviour? Seems to me the choice is easy.
